FIELDING FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIP
The Fellowship supports a Hudson Institute early-to mid-career researchers to undertake lifesaving medical research and to establish independent research careers.

Improving women's reproductive health and fertility
"The fellowship awarded by the Fielding Foundation has allowed me to develop a dietary intervention clinical trial which we hope will improve female fertility. I have assembled the critical team of obstetrician/gynecologists, inflammation experts and dieticians needed to perform this study and have already recruited 30 couples who are keen to participate. None of this would have been possible without the generous support provided by Mr Peter Fielding."

Preventing life-threatening inflammation in premature babies
"Thank you, Peter, for your investment into the important work we do here at the Hudson Institute. Your foundation has enabled my team and me to cross the notorious 'valley of death', the abyss in which many a good idea has perished on its path to translation. Building on your support, our work has attracted the interest of big pharma as well as venture capital. We have forged large-scale agreements on this basis, and are now on track to creating drugs that we anticipate to improve the lives of millions of patients worldwide, who suffer from currently incurable, debilitating diseases."
2016 | Dr Rebecca Lim
Progressing amnion cell research into safety trials for lung disease in premature babies
"The Fielding Foundation Fellowship has allowed me to undertake a first-in-human study, translating my bench research on cell therapies, to premature born babies with chronic lung disease. We have now determined that placenta-derived cells from unrelated donors are well-tolerated in these babies and have progressed our research to a Phase II multi-centre clinical trial where we will assess the safety and efficacy of these cells in extremely premature babies at risk of developing chronic lung disease."
FIELDING FOUNDATION INNOVATION AWARD
The Award supports a commercially viable Hudson Institute discovery to move the research from the lab to commercial reality and patients.

Developing more effective treatments for women with ovarian cancer
"The Fielding Foundation Innovation Award has given me the opportunity to develop new therapies for ovarian cancer that are urgently needed to improve patient care. It’s great that philanthropy recognises that we need new ways of looking at old problems, and backs young fresh minds to do it!"
2017 | Dr Tracey Edgell
Further research into stimulating factor CSF3 and its role in improving female fertility
"The fielding Innovation grant allowed me to gather pilot data showing CSF3 receptor targeting enhances endometrial function. This data provides support for intellectual property and grant applications to further explore this research aiming to improve fertility treatment and outcomes for women."

Melbourne philanthropist and Hudson Institute benefactor, Mr Peter Fielding visited the Institute on Wednesday, 16 May.
"This type of investment is critical to the future of Australian medical research. As well as fostering the careers of the Institute’s emerging scientists and their ability to build their research, this funding plays a critical role in taking promising research from the laboratory to patients,” said Professor Elizabeth Hartland.
“We are grateful to Mr Peter Fielding for his foresight and commitment to ground breaking medical research and developing the potential of our leaders and emerging scientists.”
Mr Fielding, Chairman of the Fielding Foundation, established a five-year $1 million program at Hudson Institute in 2015 to foster emerging research talent. He established two programs.
