This award recognises an individual who has demonstrated unselfish service and leadership in advancing the discipline of reproductive biology.
The SSR is the premier (and largest) international society for reproductive biology research, and the award recognizes a career of service, including most recently as President of the SSR.
Professor Findlay was the first non-North American member of the SSR to serve in this role.
He joined the Prince Henry's Institute in 1979 and led the Ovarian Biology Laboratory until 2012. Jock has published over 280 research papers and received multiple awards and accolades for his work.
A major theme of Professor Findlay's research has been in understanding how fertility in women is related to the function of their ovaries, exploring how healthy eggs are formed, stored and released.
His research led to a shift in understanding how hormones have local effects on the body including the production of eggs. His work also contributed to the development of improved IVF procedures and an understanding of fertility and infertility.
