Hudson Staff Awards awarded to Rebecca Smith and Tony Matthews

Rebecca Smith and Tony Matthews have been rewarded for their outstanding contributions to the Institute in scientific support and technical excellence, as recipients of the 2016 Hudson Staff Awards.

Rebecca Smith, Centre Admin for the Centre for Innate Immunity and Infectious Diseases, was awarded the John Donges Scientific Support Award.

The award was established by the late John Donges, a former treasurer of the Institute, who provided funds to reward scientific support staff with John’s own qualities: knowledge of the business, timeliness, accuracy, confidence and courtesy.

Colleagues have said of Rebecca:

“She has made a fundamental difference to the success and advancement of her Centre. Her work and excellence as a scientific writer has significantly contributed to the manuscript and the grant proposal success of the Centre since joining the group.”

“She gives 110% to everything and is always there to support you in any way possible. She goes well beyond her job description and our Centre would be lost without her.”

The Kadir-Fatimah fund was established in 1982 by the family of Dr Khalid bin Abdul Kadir in memory and appreciation of the support and training he received from 1979 to 1981, to provide an annual prize for technical excellence.

Tony Matthews, Research Assistant in the Centre for Innate Immunity and Infectious Diseases, is the 2016 recipient of the Kadir Fatima Award for Scientific Excellence.

Tony has been described by his colleagues as:

“A truly selfless and dedicated member of Hudson Institute.  He goes above and beyond what is asked of him to provide support for other members the centre and achieve the best scientific outcomes regardless of any hurdles.”

“He works very very hard, is a good team player and puts in so much effort. You can rely on him to do anything.”

The awards reward scientific support and technical excellence, whilst reflecting the Hudson Institute’s values of excellence, innovation, collaboration and community.
