MCCC announces 2017 travel grant awards

Hudson Institute researchers and students have been awarded 2017 Monash Comprehensive Cancer Consortium (MCCC) Travel Grants to present their work at interstate and international cancer conferences.

Each year, MCCC offers competitively reviewed travel funding to cancer researchers employed by its research and clinical partner organisations, supporting them to deliver their work at high quality cancer meetings.

“It also enables the recipients to network with their international peers and develop their career profile. Some even take the opportunity to visit their collaborators in the lab to really progress the research they are going to together,” Program Director Prof Gail Risbridger said.
  • Mr Dean Popovski, PhD student in the Centre for Cancer Research received a $2000 grant to attend the 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society for Neuro-Oncology conference in San Francisco, USA in November and to visit collaborator Dr Annie Huang at Toronto Sick Kids in Canada.
  • Dr Daniel Garama, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Centre for Cancer Research was awarded a $1500 grant to attend the 16th Annual World Congress of the Human Proteome Organisation in Dublin, Ireland in September.
  • Dr Virginie Deswaerte, Research Officer, Centre for Innate Immunity and Infectious Diseases, was also awarded a $1500 grant to attend the 5th Annual Meeting of the International Cytokine and Interferon Society (ICIS) in Kanazawa, Japan in October-November.
