Fluorescent upright microscopes

The following message contains important information for all staff actively using the fluorescent upright microscopes housed in E block, level 4.

After much ongoing discussion between senior academic staff and staff at MMI-MHTP regarding the use and maintenance of these microscopes a number of changes have been made to ensure that this equipment remains accessible and functional for all to use. Please read the follow points carefully.

1. Microscope 'B' has now been relocated to level 4 of the MHRP building (room 4.22). It has been set up and checked by MMI-MHTP staff and is able to be used in its new location now.

2. In coming days 4 members of  staff from CEM and CRH will be trained by MMI-MHTP staff in aspects of microscope care and maintenance and will become your first point of contact for troubleshooting your imaging and any problems related to the operation of these microscopes.

3. ACCESS TO THESE MICROSCOPES WILL BE RESTRICTED AT THE END OF MARCH! To ensure only trained staff are using the equipment, the two locations of these microscopes will be locked, with the keys placed in a coded lock box at each location. Users are asked to co-operate and comply with these new regulations and ensure they lock the door behind them after use and do not provide the key or lock box combinations to any un-trained staff members.

4. Re-training. All current users must undertake a short re-training session before they will be given the new lock box access codes. Ten 30min re-training session have been scheduled with MMI-MHTP staff throughout the month of March, at various times and locations to try and accommodate everyone. You do not need to schedule an appointment for these times, but ALL USERS must attend one re-training session in order to retain access to the microscopes.
Attendance is only required at one of these sessions in order to retain your access to all 3 microscopes.
Records of attendance will be taken at the re-training session, and all users will now be asked to sign a short conditions of use form at their training session.

The re-training sessions will take place at the following times:

a) Friday 3rd March, 10am (E block, level 4)
b) Friday 3rd March, 2pm (MHRP, level 4)
c) Wednesday 8th March, 11am (MHRP, level 4)
d) Wednesday 8th March, 3pm (E block, level 4)
e) Monday 13th March, 10am (E block, level 4)
f) Monday 13th March, 2pm (MHRP, level 4)
g) Thursday 23rd March, 11am (MHRP, level 4)
h) Thursday 23rd March, 3pm (E block, level 4)
i) Tuesday 28th March, 10am (E block, level 4)
j) Tuesday 28th March, 2pm (MHRP, level 4)

5. New user training must still be carried out by MMI-MHTP staff. This will now be carried out in a more scheduled manner. There will be a regular monthly training session (day TBD) and several back up options will also be available should more training sessions be required.

If you have any questions regarding the changes to these microscopes, please contact Sarah by email or phone (sarah.creed@hudson.org.au or 0432098361).

We thank you for your co-operation.

Regards,
Sarah (on behalf of MMI-MHTP and senior academic staff)
