Second-year Hudson Institute PhD student Aleisha Symon
will head to the US in June to undertake an intensive course in embryology in
Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Aleisha is currently researching her PhD in gonadal development in Professor Vincent Harley’s lab in the Centre for
Reproductive Health.
She will join 24 students from all over the world for the six-week course, titled Embryology: Concepts and
Techniques in Modern Developmental Biology, at the Marine Biological Laboratory.
The course is open to all advanced graduate students, postdoctoral
fellows and senior researchers who seek a broad and balanced view of the modern
issues of developmental biology.
Aleisha says the course will enable her to broaden her knowledge whilst forming international
bonds with fellow students and researchers.
“The course will facilitate my studies by allowing me to learn and
practice many different practical techniques, broadening my knowledge of organ
development and allowing me to form many international friendships and
connections,” Aleisha said.
Woods Hole is a village of around 800 people located on the far southwest corner of Cape Cod, and home to several major scientific institutions.
